Chrome browser showing YouTube player with Faircliff Path popup open at 37%

- Volume popup with 1% precision steps

- Live percentage display

- Scroll or drag to adjust

- Go below YouTube's default minimum volume

- Works on any YouTube video

- Lightweight popup, no account

YouTube's volume slider has not changed in years. It sits in a narrow strip at the bottom of the player, and dragging it even a few pixels can swing volume by 10 or 15 percent. For anyone who watches late at night, listens to music while working, or just wants a consistent background level, that imprecision is genuinely frustrating. You end up clicking mute, then unmute, then dragging too far, then dragging back. It takes longer than it should.

Faircliff Path was built to fix exactly that one thing. The popup replaces the native slider with a wider, more controllable version that moves in 1% increments. It also exposes the volume range below YouTube's default floor, which the native slider simply does not reach. The percentage display means you can return to the same level every time without guessing. Published by odermatt1986 and available on the Chrome Web Store since 2024, the extension has no backend, no analytics, and no account requirement.

Questions

Does it work on YouTube Music or embedded YouTube players?

Yes. The extension activates on any page that loads the YouTube player in Chrome, including YouTube Music and embedded videos on third-party sites. If the YouTube player is present, the precision slider popup will appear when you hover the volume icon.

What does 'go below YouTube's default minimum' mean?

YouTube's native slider has a floor that is not actually zero. Even at the leftmost position, some audio still plays. This extension exposes the range below that floor, so you can set volume to a genuinely near-zero level without fully muting. Useful for very quiet background audio.

Does the extension collect any data?

No. It runs entirely in your browser, makes no network requests, and does not require any account or sign-in. The only thing it touches is the YouTube player on the page you are already watching.

Will it slow down my browser or YouTube?

The extension is intentionally lightweight. It adds a small popup element to the YouTube player and nothing else. There is no background script running when you are not on YouTube, and no analytics or tracking code.

How do I open the precision slider?

Hover your cursor over the volume icon in the YouTube player controls. The popup appears automatically. You can then drag the slider or use your mouse scroll wheel to adjust volume in 1% steps. Move the cursor away to close the popup.
